ESMS

  • Development of a Corporate ESMS to assist JCM Power to fulfil the requirements of the FMO’s Sustainable Investment Code, Cameroon, Malawi, South Africa and Ghana.
  • Development and implementation of an ESMS for an EcoNet Wireless, a major Zimbabwean telecommunications services provider, Harare, Zimbabwe.
  • Development and implementation of an ISO 14001 and 45001 compliant ESMS for Electricidade de Moçambique the national power utility, Mozambique.
  • Development and implementation of an ESMS for a leading provider of agricultural equipment and contract services in Malawi on behalf of NORFUND and DEG, Blantyre and Lilongwe, Malawi.
  • Crookes Brothers Grains and Macadamia project, ESMS development for the respective estate operations located near Gúrùe, Zambezia Province, Mozambique.
  • Development of the Group Integrated Management System (IMS) and related capacity building for Ethiochicken, a commercial poultry company, Ethiopia.
  • Development of Environmental and Social Safeguard System for the Ugandan National Agricultural Research Organization to manage E&S risks in their associated research facility and project development portfolio, Kampala, Uganda.

  • External reviewer of the Solar Capital Orange photovoltaic facility ESMS, Loeriesfontein, Northern Cape Province.

Performance Monitoring

  • Member of the independent environmental and social monitoring team for the construction phase performance audits of the Kenya-Uganda (Mombasa to Kampala) railway line, on behalf of Rift Valley Railways Kenya Ltd. and Rift Valley Railways Uganda Ltd. The construction of the line system entailed a total track length of ~2,350 km. The project involved an investment by various international investors including the IFC, the AfDB, FMO, DEG, KfW, PROPARCO and the Equity Bank of Kenya.
  • Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) audits on the Malawi Electricity Infrastructure Development Project on behalf of the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA-Malawi). The project involved the acquisition of easement rights on ~700km of land over that the overhead lines traverse, in addition to requiring permanent land acquisition for substations. Mid-term and Completion audits were conducted on the six RAPs generated for the project in order to assess the performance of the implementing agent.
  • Performance audit on the Busoga Forestry Company’s implementation of the Kachung Community Development Plan on behalf of the Swedish Energy Agency, Lira, Uganda.
  • New Vaal Colliery Environmental Management Programme (EMP) compliance audit, Vereeniging, Gauteng Province.
  • Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project Construction EMP compliance audits, Johannesburg, Gauteng Province.
  • Eskom’s Komati, Camden and Grootvlei Power Stations’ return to service project Construction EMP compliance audits, Mpumalanga Province.
  • Construction EMP compliance audits for the Kenmare Namalope mineral sands expansion project, Moma, Mozambique.
  • Construction and Operational phase compliance monitoring of the Solar Capital Ilanga Lethemba 1 and 3 photovoltaic facilities, De Aar, Northern Cape Province.
